S E L E C T E D W O R K S: Onè Respè!
“Onè! Respè!” is an old-fashioned way of saying hello in Haitian Kreyol, which translates as “Honor! Respect!”. In the countryside you can still hear people using this greeting. The person arriving calls out “Onè!” and the other person answers “Respè!” I am coming to visit you with honor, and I am receiving you with respect. I had these words in my head and used them to guide me as I photographed people for this series.
